The Rama First Nation Emergency Medical Service is seeking to fill one (1) Full Time Paramedic Supervisor / PCP position.
Preference and priority will be given to Aboriginal applicants.
Job Title: PARAMEDIC SUPERVISOR / PCP

Reports to: Land Ambulance Manager
Anticipated Start Date: May 2012
Mandatory Qualifications:
 A minimum of 5 -7 years experience in related positions.
 As per Regulations made under the Ontario Ambulance Act, at the Primary Care or higher level of certification.
 Be physically capable of performing all duties and shifts assigned as a Paramedic.
 Current Ontario Base Hospital Certification in Symptom Relief and Defibrillation OR
 Will be able to be certified by the appointed Base Hospital program within 90 days of being hired.
 Currently certified by an Ontario Base Hospital in Intravenous and Fluid Therapy OR
 Will be able to be certified by the appointed Base Hospital IV & Fluid Therapy program within 90 days of being hired.
 Comprehensive knowledge of Paramedic Services, normally acquired through the attainment of a Community College Diploma in Paramedicine or a University Degree in a related discipline.
 Working knowledge of all applicable Acts, Regulations and Standards regarding Emergency Health Services in Ontario, (i.e.: Ambulance Act, Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards).
 Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in emergency situations and in respect to public relations.
 Demonstrated ability to motivate staff and foster a co-operative and harmonious team environment.
 High level of communication and presentation skills to communicate effectively with staff, public, committees and representatives of external agencies and other municipalities.
 Ability to travel to various locations within and outside of the response area for Rama First Nation for emergency response, meetings or presentations.
 Computer literacy in a Windows environment including Microsoft Office applications (i.e.: Outlook, Word Excel and PowerPoint).
 Will be required to work shifts subject to service needs.
 Able to perform On-call Duty Officer responsibilities.
The following qualifications are assets:
 Knowledge of Aboriginal culture.
 Ability to speak Ojibway language.
 Knowledge of multi-cultural sensitivity.
 Certification as an Advanced Care Paramedic.
 Knowledge of local geographic and surrounding area.
 2 years experience as an Operations Supervisor or similar position.
 Experience and/or formal education or training in Adult education, with a particular emphasis on Paramedic training.
 Experience or knowledge of Hazardous Materials or CBRNE, rural/remote response or similar concepts.
 Experience in supporting portfolios such as Public Relations, Paramedic Training, Health and Safety and / or Infection Control.
 Training in unified command – ICS, IMS, BEM, and / or other related skills.

Remuneration: Grid Level 9: $37.28 (Probationary) ($39.49-$43.93, Completion of probation)
Hours of Work: 1 Permanent FTE = 42 hours per week (Average)
NOTE 1:

Position Summary
Responsible for the supervision of all assigned paramedics, and the operation of all equipment and facilities. Perform regular duties as a Primary Care Paramedic.

 Function as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP)
 Carries out primary and ongoing patient care as required.
 Perform BLS/ALS patient care functions in accordance with the Provincial care standards to meet the needs of the patient and in accordance with qualifications ensuring patient's safety, privacy, and confidentiality
 Transfers patient to and from the ambulance safely
 Copes with unusual situations and employs light rescue techniques when required
 Inspects ambulance vehicle(s) for road worthiness,
 Maintenance of vehicle/equipment and driving
 BLS inventory (according to schedule of ambulance supplies and equipment), cleanliness and serviceability
 Participates in training programs, practice sessions, and any other staff education if applicable
 Completing ambulance call reports (as per ACR manual)
 Providing incident reports, occurrence reports, accident reports and any other report(s) deemed necessary and devised by the Management Team
 Performs all duties and tasks in a manner which ensures the safety of self and others
 To respond to all request for Ambulance Service as directed by the CACC
 Follow the direction received by the CACC
 Supervise all assigned paramedics and maintain operation of all equipment and facilities.
 Handles all day to day labor relations matters including the maintenance of paramedic schedule and staffing
 Ensures facility and all assigned equipment and vehicles are maintained and all general supplies and vehicle supplies are safeguarded and maintained at the proper level and according to MOHLTC standards
 Ensure CACC and all assigned staff are advised of road closures, detours, and general road conditions.
 Lead the EMS Quality Assurance program.
 Assist in performance appraisals of paramedics, monitor patient care, perform ride outs, etc. to identify training and job rotation needs.
 Review documentation (i.e.: ACR's, incident reports) for quality assurance purposes
 Review incident reports, shift logs etc. and take appropriate action to resolve issues
 Report, document and investigate vehicle accidents and/or on-the-job related injuries/exposures of personnel and/or citizens.
 Liaises with all First Nation divisions, Ministry of Health and Long-term Care (MOHLTC), allied agencies and other organizations.
 Assist the Manager with disciplinary issues, complaints, investigations and actions.
 Fill the role of the EMS duty officer as assigned; Performs on-site coordinator duties at major incidents and/or MCI’s until relieved by other senior authority personnel.
 Planning and implementation of public and staff development, orientation, in-service training programs etc..
 Ensures all applicable Departmental Policies and Procedures are understood and implemented by staff.
 Ensures good public relations standards are maintained with respect to contact with the public and other governmental and outside organizations, and participating in the community relations program.
 Assists in the hiring and orientation of new paramedic staff.
 Manages at least two portfolios such as Public Relations, Health & Safety, etc.
